Calgary (take 2) : The Great Divide

Jon:
So we left Calgary a week ago...

Then we came back.

Our stove broke and without it all was lost! The only town within 200 miles that could offer hope of a repair or replacement was the one we had just left.

Problem was, in doing this relatively flat turnaround I realised that my knee was simply not up to the task of the Canadian Rockies. It had started bothering me way back in Vermont only 3 days into the trip. It got worse and it got better. The last couple weeks of riding were through open prairie and inherently flat; making me feel optimistic about my knee's recovery. But when it started aching and getting very quickly more painful I knew that I couldn't attempt the mountains without risking long-term injury to my knee. It was a difficult decision but I had to call it a day.

Wei has decided to continue, riding the rest of the way to Vancouver alone. I wish him all the best! He has been a wonderful companion on this trip, and it has been fantastic to share the experience with him. I could not hope for a better friend and co-rider to spend 3 months in a tent with.

Great thanks to Jim & Lucy for welcoming us not once but twice, with open arms!

See you on the other side my friend!

And just so you know, the following statement is NOT TRUE!

Pants are definitely not necessary - glad you're continuing to spread the word. Too bad you wont be riding commando across the rockies. sorry to hear
